A Real Housewife!

You SEE!!!

SOMETIMES I can be a real housewife.

Not always dependent on the lazy housewife's guide to survival.

AND I remembered the yeast!

They look magnificent. And much more interesting than shop-bought aesthetically-perfect tasteless hot cross buns. Now we need a recipe, please!

Very tasty Sally, I love my hot cross buns toasted and dripping with butter.

Believe it or not - I don't think I've ever had a Hot Cross Bun in my life. (in my mind they are just a silly child rhyme).

Look tasty. I may have to try them sometime.

Thanks Asha!
Hi Pierre! Thank you! It's 2lb, 2 oz strong white flour, 7g sachet of fast action dried yeast (or fresh of course if you can get it!), 1 and a bit tsp's of salt, 12 fl oz water, 1 fl oz vegetable oil, 8 oz mixed fruit, 2 tbsps brown sugar and 4 or 5 tsps of mixed spice/ cinnamon/ (or whatever you fancy in the way of spices). The crosses are just flour and water, and the glaze is milk water and brown sugar! Standard bread method, or make the dough in a breadmaker, remove and make into buns, put on crosses and glaze. Very simple really, and now my comments are longer than today's blog!!!!
Beccy - Yumm!!
Karmyn - When you do try them, do try to get hold of some that contain some spices. The supermarket ones just tase of bread and currants and are very bland!! But you should. They are nice!!

Thanks for the recipe, Sally. We'll have a go sometime over the weekend. My son and his girlfriend are making pizzas (from scratch) this evening; unfortunately this is happening at her house so my other son and I won't get any (this time at least). Happy Easter.

pierre - make some pizza yourself and then you'll get some!

I made homemade pizza last week and homemade pasta, both times after getting in from work for dinner, so it is possible - if you want it badly enough.

But I really came here to congratulate Sally on her delicious looking hot cross buns. Have a great day Sally - I wish I had two bank holidays. Even one would suffice. They don't celebrate Easter officially here Stateside. Oh well...

Sally these look brilliant, mine were just out of the oven about an hour ago and not such a nice shape as yours. I am actually writing a post as I look at this so I will give yours a mention.

Hello Sally, Sam and Chrisb. I have previously made pizza using the same Pizza Express cookbook (this includes the dough and tomato sauce from scratch). I will have another go if I can't persuade my son to make some more. However, we have never tried making pasta at home.
A happy Easter to all of you.

we get our double bank holiday at Thanksgiving in November.
Personally Thanksgiving AND Easter would suit me ;)

Absolutely Sam! I think that we should have an Autumn bank holiday too. it's a long time from August to Christmas!! We could have a harvest holiday, and you could have Easter. That would be fair.
